Have you ever been so determined in developing your skills as a painter that you lost focus on the basics and what can actually make your paintings BETTER!

Rose will discuss and demonstrate various methods of drawing and sketching: gesture, scribble, manikin, tonal mass and construction form.

Landscape layout and design will be highlighted.

The goal of this class is to draw what we see with confidence and enjoyment. We will focus on drawing common objects that we tend to use in our paintings, such as trees, buildings and people.

To avoid copious note taking, this information, as well as advice to the student, will be included in a booklet available for a $10 fee.

2-Day ZOOM with Diane Dean
Textured Acrylic Painting
with Both Brushes and Palette Knives
Tuesday & Wednesday, May 4th & 5th
This class will focus on painting with both fluid and heavy-bodied acrylics in a loose style. Fluid acrylics will be used for backgrounds and palette knives for the foreground elements. The background area will be loose and abstract as a backdrop for a dogwood tree.
The primary elements of the composition with be completed with palette knives. Students will work on stretched canvas. The instructor works on an easel. Students can work on an easel or flat surface. Images of full tree and close ups of sections.
Note: students should apply a new coat of gesso on canvas at least 3 days prior to class so that it is dry. After 24 hours, students should paint the canvas black using one of the flat brushes and the black paint. Allow the black coat to dry overnight.
If students want texture on their canvas surface, heavy bodied gesso can be used - Liquitex in the half-gallon size from Michaels works well.
Students should watch the instructor’s demo on creating a textured surface on the Diane Dean Art You Tube Channel. Here’s the link. This is a 15-minute free workshop/demo.
