What does it mean for an artist to paint “ Plein Air “ ? Simply put, it is to paint outside, out of doors, with the scene that you are painting right there before you.
What are some advantages to doing this? Well, first you see the true and natural colors of light and shadow which can lend authenticity to our work. Then, too, as you look at the scene it is not flat. No, it is three dimensional, so you get a real sense of time and place. All of this can definitely help us to better understand what we are painting, and that, in turn, will make our paintings better.
Here at Pine Shores, we have a plein air schedule coming up and then a subsequent Plein Air Show in October. As the weather warms, watch for these in our newsletter or on our website and take part in it. You will enjoy it!
